If you want more than steaks and burger, the shops here list fresh sausage, smoked products and boneless cuts. None of these listings mention bear or elk, so call first if you have one. None of these processors list prices online; most quote a flat base rate plus extras for sausage, sticks and caping.
Crawford County is in the PGC's Northwest Region. Region at a glance: Allegheny National Forest country, from Erie and Warren south through Venango, Mercer and Clarion. If every cooler here is full, neighboring Erie, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties have 16 listed processors between them. If you want your deer tested for CWD, ask the shop to save the head, or drop it at a free PGC head bin.

Drop-off checklist
- Tag it right away. Tag the deer immediately after harvest and before you move it. The tag goes on the ear and stays there until the deer is processed.
- Field dress and cool fast. Remove entrails, drain the cavity and get the deer cold. In warm weather, pack the cavity with bagged ice.
- High-risk parts go in the trash. New for 2026-27: you can move a deer anywhere, but once it leaves the kill site the head, backbone and spleen must go out with commercial trash. A processor handles that for you.
- Report within 10 days. Online, by phone at 1-800-838-4431, or with the digest report card.
Hunters Sharing the Harvest
Drop a legally harvested deer at a participating processor and the venison goes to Pennsylvania food banks. Program sponsors usually cover the processing; confirm with the shop.
